Haha, co-creating not just the teacher and GenAI, but the teacher with the students AND with GenAI!
In this article, Romare & Manneklint (2026) describe how they bring together their nursing course’s learning outcomes, AI competencies, and co-creation. Students individually develop MCQ questions for each of the course’s learning outcomes with help of AI (and following specific instructions about only one correct response, but distractors that need to seem sensible etc). The next step is the interesting one: Students need to fact-check the questions and responses with help of specific course materials, and add those references to the question. This ensures both engagement with the course material (yes, AI can also do this itself…) and that the questions are actually answerable by the students taking the course and don’t require any extra knowledge or skills that cannot be expected from everybody. The annotated questions and responses are then submitted to the teacher, who also quality-checks and picks from them for the exam, trying to pick at least one question from each student, but with the option of combining or editing questions.
Students seemed very positive about this activity, both because they really understood the importance of fact-checking AI output, and because it seemed fun to be involved in creating exam questions. So this is an interesting idea to consider!
