This article was probably the easiest and most fun to write in my whole career so far! Trust between students and teachers is a really engaging topic, so when Rachel first interviewed Peter and myself, we jumped on the opportunity to continue discussing it with her, and then also with students, who we started to interview. Those interviewees in turn also became curious and invited us to add a question to a survey that was about to be sent out by the student union. The students taking the survey were clearly also interested in the topic, so out of those 477 students, 467 filled in the free-text response to our question! Such a response rate is pretty much unheard of, and many of the responses were quite detailed, too. But in a nutshell: “Engineering students trust teachers who ask, listen, and respond“.
