So you thought exciting wave watching can only happen near the ocean? That is so not true!
Last weekend, for example, I spotted the round foam patch just downstream of that little weir. Further downstream, the foam acted kinda like a flow tracer, but what was going on with that round patch?
Turns out it’s spinning around itself as one side is continuously driven by the current! And on the other side the water is just recirculating. Btw, can you spot the recirculation cell on the other side of the main current? Seems to be where most of the foam that ends up downstream enters from!

This made me very happy for a very long time, even though I had to balance in a very uncomfortable position to capture this movie! Totally worth it! :)
