Yes, funny how often this "do as I say, not as I do" kind of teaching happens. I'm currently planning a co-created faculty development workshop, we'll see how that goes! (Also, nice books in the hammock are obviously great, too ;-))

Ι recently attended a course for higher education instructors, all scholars and experts in their respective fields (engineering, medicine, science, religion ...), but with no background in teaching. There was a one-day session on co-creating the curriculum: why do it, how to do it etc. Oddly enough, the course did not allow this co-creation to happen! The students attending it had no opportunity to come with suggestions on the curriculum or provide any kind of evaluation during the course. Preach about one thing, yet practice another?

I have now signed up for another course where participants will work together on different projects. It will start in august and I have already contacted, on my own accord / without any prompt, the instructors to suggest a project idea. It is not one of those they usually explore, but it is my only reason for signing up for their course: to learn from the groupwork. Otherwise, I could happily be in the garden, reading a nice book in my hammock!
